1) Register or Check Registration

Make sure your name, address, and party (if relevant) are up to date.

If your online registration address doesn’t match your driver license, update your license address first, then register.

2) Receive Your Ballot

Salt Lake County conducts elections primarily by mail. Active, registered voters are mailed a ballot before each election.

If you need a ballot sent to a different address, contact the Clerk’s office early.

3) Return Your Ballot

  • Drop box: Return by 8:00 PM on Election Day.
  • Mail: Ballot must arrive to the Clerk by 8:00 PM on Election Day.
  • In person: Vote early or at a vote center on Election Day.

Tip: Don’t wait. Ballots must be received by the deadline (not just postmarked).

4) Prefer to Vote In Person?

Use the state lookup to see your nearest vote center and what’s on your ballot.

Bring valid ID for in-person voting. See accepted ID on the state site.

5) Track Your Ballot

Sign up for text/email alerts when your ballot is mailed, received, and counted, or check your status manually.

  • Ballot deadlines: Ballots must be in the Clerk’s possession by 8:00 PM on Election Day. Drop boxes are open until 8:00 PM. Mailing late can risk missing the deadline.
